14 more illegal revenue collectors arrested in Onitsha

The operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested fourteen more illegal revenue collectors in Onitsha and environs.

According to Haruna Mohammed (CSP) the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO of the command, the suspects were nabbed while carrying out their nefarious activities.

The arrest of the fourteen suspects he said is in furtherance to it’s determination towards eradicating illegal revenue collections, harassement and extortion on innocent citizens on the road in the name of IGR collection.

He said that police patrol teams attached to the Area Command Onitsha and Okpoko Division had between Monday and Wednesday, while on patrol along,upper iweka, Owerri road and headbridge all in Onitsha arrested the illegal revenue collectors under false pretense of being government revenue agents in the State.

Mohammed said that the latest arrest brought the number of suspects arrested for illegal revenue collections so far to forty three within one week.

The PPRO said that the operation was in compliance with Anambra State Government directives on the 7th December,2020 “banning all forms of illegal revenue collections by persons claiming to be State revenue agents or officials.

He said suspects would be brought to book as soon as investigations are concluded.
