Police confirm dynamite explosion at the mile 3 market in Port-Harcourt

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that there was an explosion on Monday morning at the Mile 3 Market in the Port Harcourt Local Government Area of the State

The confirmation was contained in a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Nnamdi Omoni (SP)

Omoni said that a locally fabricated dynamite, exploded when Mrs Ifemia Aloke, popularly known as ‘ Mama Joy’ opened her fish shop.

He said that the explosion inflicted injuries on her son and one other young lady who are currently receiving medical attention.

The PPRO said that no life was lost in the incident, he noted that the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) was immediately despatched to the scene to sweep and render the entire Market safe and that ormal trading activities resumed immediately.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday(CP) has ordered a full scale Investigation into the incident with a view to ascertaining the cause of the explosion and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

He also reassured the good people of the state is generally calm and that they should go about their lawful activities uninterrupted and without fear of molestation from any quarter.
