President Muhammadu Buhari, has urged the Nigerian Senate to confirm the appointment of Major General Farouk Yahaya, as the Chief of Army Staff.
The Nigerian President, in a letter to the President of the Senate, urged the federal lawmakers to give his request, expeditiously.
Buhari had appointed Major-General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff on Thursday May 27, following death of the past army chief, Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a Kaduna air-crash along with 10 other military officials.
A statement signed and released on Thursday by military spokesperson Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, announced the new appointment.
Prior to his appointment Major-General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism, Counter-Insurgency military outfit in the North East code named Operation HADIN KAI, the statement said.
